BMS Canned Food Drive

Jadzia Daudel, Writer

Every year since about 20 years ago, NJHS has sponsored the canned food drive here at BMS. The canned food drive is a service project and a mission to give back and serve our community, and help others who are less fortunate than ourselves. All the canned and non-perishable food items that are donated go to the food bank of Solano and Contra Costa. “I’m hoping that students will want to donate out of a sense of generosity, especially right now in a time where we are thinking about the things we are thankful for in life, and about those who may be less fortunate than ourselves.” says Mrs. Fields. You can also donate money to the food bank, and $1 is equivalent to 3 cans.

To make the food drive more fun and encourage kids to donate, all the english teachers will be holding a competition to see which teacher can get their students to donate the most cans. The winner this year ended up being Mrs. Valdivia’s class, who ended up donating a total of around 530 cans! The total for this year ended up being around 400 pounds of cans. Great job BMS! Keep in mind, NJHS will be sponsoring a Toys for Tots Donation bin, make sure to donate!
